Draft Your Basic Will

Having a will is one of the most important things you can do for yourself and your family. Not only can a will legally protect your spouse, children, and assets, it can also spell out exactly how you would like things handled after you have passed on. If you have minor children, it can also be used to appoint legal guardians for them.

We can draft a basic Will for you at a fixed fee, if the following apply to you:
you are a British Columbia resident,18 years old or older
you are single, married or living in a common-law relationship and have no children from previous relationships (blended families) or ongoing matrimonial disputes
the beneficiaries of your estate are your spouse and alternatively, your child(ren) in equal shares
you have no special bequests, and no need for guardians or testamentary trusts
you have one executor and one alternate executor
you do not require any customized advice

For eligible clients:
If you qualify for our basic Will service, the fee is fixed at $699 plus disbursements (registration under BC Will Registry) and tax (12%), if you do not need us to attend for the signing of the Will
If you require us to assist with signing of the Will, then the fee is $899 plus disbursements and tax
No tax planning, individualized legal advice or customizations provided, we draft the basic Will only based on the information provided on our application form
If you are not eligible for our basic Will service or need specific customizations (including anything excluded by our basic Will), we can still draft a Will for you at our discounted fee, contact us for details

Notice

Please note the following additional terms and conditions for this service:

If you have a spouse (and are not currently separated or divorced), we will appoint your spouse as the sole beneficiary of the residue of your estate (what remains after payment of any liabilities)
If you have adult children, they will be appointed as beneficiaries of the residue along with your spouse, if applicable
If you have any minor children, they will be appointed only as contingent beneficiaries should your spouse predecease you (or if you have children, but no spouse)
We recommend setting up a testamentary trust for minor children so that the executor/trustee manages their entitlement to your residue until they reach a certain age – if this is something you want to addon, please indicate that in the previous page ($150 fee applies)
We recommend that you regularly review and update your beneficiaries for any registered accounts you may have, including RRSPs, TFSAs, insurance policies, etc. to avoid probate fees
Please contact us for any complex estate planning requirements or that are beyond the scope of this service
